4x - 1 = side of square 2x + 1 = length of rectanglex + 2 = width of rectangleSince their perimeters are equal, 4(4x - 1) = 2(2x + 1) + 2(x + 2) 16x - 4 = 4x + 2 + 2x + 410x = 10x = 1If we plug 1 in for x,Each side of the square is 4(1) - 1 = 3The perimeter is thus 12 The length of the rectangle = 2(1) + 1 = 3The width of the rectangle is 1 + 2 = 3The perimeter is this 2(3) + 2(3) = 12 So x = 1 is the verified.

hope this helps! (:
