Fables are stories passed down from generation to generation, usually with a moral lesson to be learnt. The characters are commonly animals and nature. Fairy tales are stories written especially for children, often about magical characters such as elves, fairies, goblins, giants, princesses, ogres. Fairy tales can be fables, but not all fables are fairy tales.

Hope this helps.
