To limit the control of government
and advertisers, from inception, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) was funded by
license fees levied on receivers, and its governance was given over to a
nonprofit corporation. The BBC was originally built using the social
responsibility model, which posits that broadcasting was a public trust.
