Why does the priest think that oedipus is better able to help thebes?

I’m not sure how clearly he states his trust in Oedipus, but this changes depending on the text you read. Overall the trust he will have in Oedipus will he due to him solving the riddle of the Sphinx on arriving to Thebes (google it for more details), but since Oedipus saved the city once before, he may be able to do it again
