remember you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

17-9x=-3+16x
add 9x to both sides
17=-3+25x
add 3 to both sides
20=25x
divide both sides by 25
[tex]\frac{20}{25}=x[/tex]
[tex]\frac{4}{5}=x[/tex]
[tex]x=\frac{4}{5}[/tex]
