Why does Neugroschel's translation of The Metamorphosis refer to Gregor's parents as "the mother" and "the father"?

To make Gregor seem less connected to his parents

The relationship between Gregor and his parent in the original version the father’s name is rarely mentioned and in the Neugroschel's translation they are just called “The mother” and “The father to reflect the distance between the characters.
