How does the volume occupied by a cubic centimeter compare to the volume occupied by a milliliter?

A cubic centimeter takes up the same volume as a milliliter. The two units are are somewhat interchangeable in some cases. For example water has a density of 1g/ml which can also be written as 1g/cm^3.
