To find 5 in terms of 1/4 multiply both 5 and 4 and put it over 4

5 * 4 = 20/1 * 4 = 20/4

Take 20/4 and subtract by other fraction.

20/4 - 17/4 = 3/4

Answer is 3/4

Check by adding to 17/4

17/4 + 3/4 = 20/4 & 5

You're most welcome
