Slope of a line

We know the equation of a line is given by:

[tex]y=mx+b[/tex]

where m is its slope and b its interpcetion with y - axis.

We know the slope equation is

[tex]\begin{gathered} m=\frac{\Delta y}{\Delta x} \\ =\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} \end{gathered}[/tex]

If (x₁, y₁) = (-2, -9) and (x₂, y₂) = (2, 11) then replacing in the slope equation

[tex]\begin{gathered} m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} \\ =\frac{11-(-9)}{2-(-2)} \\ =\frac{11+9}{2+2} \\ =\frac{20}{4}=5 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Answer: the slope of the line is 5
