Cellular cytoplasm in animal cells is full of salts the cell needs to maintain homeostasis. If the cell were placed in pure water, what would happen to the cell?

Since the cell is hypotonic compared to it's surroundings, the water will go into the cell, leading the cell to expand and possible explode.
