The value of p(a) is 0.5

Mutually exclusive events are those events that do not occur at the same time

Given,

The a and b are mutually exclusive events

P(a AND b)=0

P(a)=0.48

p(a or b)=0.98

We know that,

P(a or b)=P(a)+P(b)-P(a AND b)

P(a or b)=P(a)+P(b)-0

P(a or b)=P(a)+P(b)

P(a)=P(a or b)-P(b)

Substitute the given values

P(a)= 0.98-0.48

P(a)=0.5

Hence, the value of P(a) is 0.5
