[tex] \frac{1}{2} y - 5 = - 7[/tex]

[tex] \frac{1}{2} y = - 7 + 5[/tex]

[tex] \frac{1}{2} y = - 2[/tex]

[tex]y = - 2 \div \frac{1}{2} [/tex]

[tex]y = - 2 \times \frac{2}{1} = - 2 \times 2 [/tex]

[tex]y = - 4[/tex]

Answer: y = -4
