Without a cell to supply energy, or a component such as a bulb to dissipate it,
and some connecting wire, you couldn't make a circuit.

But you could make one without a switch. 

(The only problem then would be that you could not turn off the bulb,
and you couldn't get any sleep until the cell runs down. :-) )
