Answer: A caravan was a group of people usually traders traveling together across a desert in Asia or North Africa. I am not completely sure about your sencond question, I am guessing caravans made Mecca wealthy due to the fact it was a trade center which would attract traders such as caravans. Mecca I believe was a religous area to which could be an attraction.
