This fact is significant because it tells us that South West Asia (a part of the MIddle East) is overstrained for water resources.

The reason is that most of SW Asia is either arid or semi-arid, with some countries of the area essentially being full deserts like Qatar or the United Arab Emirates.

The countries of SW Asia, and the region as a whole, must develop water management plans that are enviromentally cautious, in order to avoid possible serious water shortages in the near future.
