The conquest of England was documented in the Bayeux Tapestry, which was created in the 1070s by the half-brother of William the Conqueror, Bishop Odo. There are many reasons why the form of tapestry was chosen to immortalise the Battle of Hastings, but most likely this was due to the fact that tapestries were known to be a durable art form, demonstrated irrefutably by the fact the original tapestry can still be seen today in Normandy, France.
