Distance between two points formula:

√(x₂ - x₁)² + (y₂ - y₁)²

Since the y-coordinates are the same, they eliminate each other in the formula and therefore they will be 0.

New formula (for points that have the same y-coordinates):

√(x₂ - x₁)²

Eliminate √ and ² since they cancel each other out.

Basically:

x₂ - x₁

Example:

(2,4) and (6,4)

6 - 2 = 4

The distance is 4.
