Ions compounds can be described as compounds which can dissociate into ions. An ionic compound is usually made from a metal atom and a non- metal atom. This means that a positively charged atom joins with a negatively charged atom to make the ionic bond.

For example, consider sodium chloride. Sodium has the positive charge whereas chlorine has the negative charge. Both the atoms join by ionic bonding.
