Two monosaccharides can join together via glycosylic  bond and make disaccharides. Some of the disaccharides are: sucrose (glucose + fructose), lactose (galactose + glucose), maltose (glucose + glucose).

Disaccharides can be broken down to monosaccharides by an enzyme called a disaccharidase.
