The Jay Treaty achieved many of the state goals of the Americans but Jefferson's Democratic-Republicans started crying bloody murder after the treaty was announced, causing problems for Adams. Jefferson was worried that the treaty would further strengthen the Federalists and destroy the spirit of Republicanism.
