Which theorist is most associated with the idea that economic influence dictates social change?

I believe the answer is: Karl Marx

Karl Marx believe that social change could only be achieved if the Government held the full control over the economic influence in the country. By making the people do not have any form of personal ownership, Marx believe that the government could create social change and create true equality among the people.
