a=x b=y
[tex] {x}^{2} - {y}^{2} = 33 \\ (x - y) \times (x + y) = 33 \\ 3 \times (x + y) = 33 \\ x + y = 33 \div 3 \\ x + y = 11[/tex]
You only have to remember
[tex] {x}^{2} - {y}^{2} = (x + y) \times (x - y)[/tex]
